I ate vegetables yesterday. WHAT NOW.
It was actually a really big deal! Heath made one cup with salt and pepper and one without. The seasoned ones were a million times better, but I still sat there for several minutes staring at my fork in silence like a five-year-old. Why do veggies take so long to chew, anyway? Blehhhh.
But, I'm determined to learn to do this, because I want Daniel to be healthier than I have been. So I powered through seven bites, then rewarded myself with what was supposed to be half an hour of Minecraft. Except Heath played with me, and Ben and Michael were already on, and basically we didn't go to bed until 1 a.m. Now I am paying the price. z_z
Meanwhile, Halloween stuff is going well! I carved a lame pumpkin and Heath an awesome one, and last night I finished Daniel's Mario costume. The last detail was the mustache, and it is amazing. I'll post pics and say how I did it once I get the entire thing on him at once, which I guess will be tomorrow for my Eye of Argon party! I...should clean.
What we haven't figured out is what Heath should dress up as. I'm reusing my old Link costume, so we thought some kind of Nintendo/Smash Brothers theme would be fun--we even have a Superman suit available through Heath's work (repurposed into a Carpet Hero suit), so we thought maybe we could manage Captain Falcon. There's just not enough time to figure out all the weird accessories, though. So he'll probably just be something random from our collection? It's kinda up in the air. All we're doing is our own party and handing out candy, but still!
The other thing is that Halloween means it's almost November, which means NaNoWriMo. Eeeeek!! I feel like it snuck up on me this year, even though I actually have a very solid idea of what I'm writing about. This is just the first year that I haven't spent all October getting psyched up for it, besides which I'm in a new region. I hope the write-ins aren't all in Salem, or I won't be able to make it to any. Meanwhile, how will I juggle baby, novel, and other responsibilities? I have no idea! But I've done this before. I'm sure I can do it again if I just keep the fire going. Rawrrrr!! Pump it up!!! YEAH
PS. I'm writing about Medusa.

Good times!
I'm always proud and excited to tell people how much tidier and less icky cloth diapers are than disposables.
That still may be true, but it turns out that when your baby plants both feet in poo mid-change, kick-smears your arms, and then pees into your sock, it doesn't actually matter what kind of dipe you had him in!

Froomph
Argh. I've lost my planner, and with it, my brain (not to mention lots of notes and several photos of Daniel). In a cruel twist, I can't find the new planner I bought to replace it, either. >_<
Today was strange. I spent all of church in some kind of fugue state; I have the impression that the lessons were pretty good, but I couldn't really pay attention despite the fact that I didn't have anything specific distracting me. Heath and my mom held Daniel most of the time. I guess it was just a combination of tiredness and anxiety, not to mention my mind being all disorganized. I usually use the free moments at church to get my planner up to date and get ready for the coming week--trying to do it all in my head is no fun.
Also, Daniel is doing this weird thing where he clearly really wants to nurse, but he keeps flipping over. I guess he gets bored, or maybe his body is just compelling him to keep doing that until he masters crawling, or something. He'll still be hungry, but no longer able to hold still and eat; he just wiggles around and pretty soon starts whining with hunger again. When I nurse him in bed and he flips onto his tummy, sometimes he cheerfully tries to continue nursing, like a little puppy. It's bizarre and adorable, but unfortunately even that doesn't hold his attention. I wish I knew what the problem was. Actually, I guess it could be a teething thing, if the suction hurts his gums. Hmm. Blah. It's kind of ruining the excitement of my thrush finally seeming to have gone away.
I didn't mean for this to be a complainy post! I also got a new church calling, which I won't reveal yet. It's super scary, but I think it might be exactly what I need to be doing with myself right now. The number of awesome reasons to go for it keeps going up the more I think and talk about it. But, ohhhh, man. Scary.
Actually, lacking my planner, I guess I can take some notes here. Things I need to do this week:
* Pumpkin carving tomorrow!! Woohoo!! Best FHE ever.
* Have Heath's brother over on Tuesday, watch Star Trek:TNG
* Halloween thing with Jennifer on Wednesday evening
* Heath's thing with the missionaries Thursday (and I get visit-taught)
* Eye of Argon party Friday!!! Woohooooooooo!! I wonder if anyone's actually coming? Must check on that.
* Sooner than that, get all this laundry folded and put away
* Get a script to Michael for this week's comic
* Finish all our Halloween costumes
* Make serious progress on Heath's grad school application
* Make some clay things?
* Work on Christmas presents? (I'm making them, so I had to start early)
* Buy a crock pot?
* Keep cleaning up and moving in in general
* Any number of a billion to-do items I've been putting off until they become ridiculous
Also, I want to buy a ring with a smiley face on it. As a reminder.

Hello
Phew. Here goes.
I haven't started a new one of these since 2003. It's a little intimidating! The same thing happens when I buy a journal or notebook; if the cover is pretty, I get scared of writing in it. What if the inside isn't as awesome as the outside? But the only way to get over that is to get over it and start filling it up, so here I am.
When I first started keeping an online journal, almost nine years ago, I hand-coded it and hosted it on my own website. Some years after that, I migrated to LiveJournal because that was where the majority of my friends were. Most of them are inactive now, though, besides which...
Actually, hmm. I was about to say that the kinds of things I talk about have changed, but it's not really true! Sure, I'm a mom now and I used to be a teenager, but it's still just me talking about myself and my life. I'm still a nerd, still an artist, and still a writer, and the fact that many of my thoughts revolve around another human's bodily fluids doesn't actually change that as much as you might think. So really, I guess the theme of what I'm writing about won't be any different than it has been. The point about wanting to go where most of my friends are currently writing still holds, though.
Okay, so, anyway! I should give an introduction to / update on myself.
Here are some things I like to do: Read science fiction, read poetry, read history, read webcomics, read other stuff, write mediocre novels, write good essays, sing (especially in groups), make things with Sculpey, play board games (especially complicated ones), play or run tabletop RPGs, play console RPGs, play other awesome video games, hang out with amazing people, sit funny, eat pasta, drink juice, have an opinion, investigate your opinions, successfully navigate weighty conversations, rant about social justice, analyze things, snuggle with my baby son, go for walks, rock out, give blood, window shop, make strange noises and then laugh uproariously at 3 a.m.
Here are some things I do not like to do: Blow-dry my hair, lift heavy objects, eat vegetables, accumulate junk, waste things, be around hostile people, watch horror movies, listen to country music, bump into things all day.
Here are some other things about me: There are five kids in my family, and most of us are married. I also have 12 aunts and uncles and 25 first cousins. Growing up like that has significantly influenced my personality; I'm obsessed with communities, but am often too shy to introduce myself. I'm married to my favorite superhero, Heath, who will talk to me about anything, and who makes me funnier and smarter and nicer. We have a six-month-old son, Daniel, who is alarmingly wonderful. Motherhood is fun and awful and easy and terrifying and enlightening. I'm very religious, and work to have this always make me more pleasant and never less. I could be working harder on that. I'm anemic. I'm myopic. I'm short, but not interestingly short. I'm a(n inactive) Wikipedia admin. I have a webcomic. I have a giant birthmark on the back of my right knee that looks like a continent.
I guess that's probably enough? Probably. Next I guess I'll just jump into talking about stuff and pretend I have no backlog of things to tell. Or anyway I'll try! Writing about myself and my baby both has so far proved difficult, but I really want to be able to remember this stuff later.
